In this test, painted samples are inoculated with fungal spores and
incubated in a high humidity chamber to determine if the fungi will grow on
the test pieces. Both a negative control and a positive control of the
customer’s choice are recommended and are considered additional samples. If
no control is provided, filter paper discs will be provided by
MicroStar to serve as viability controls for the inoculum. Six test
pieces for each sample are required since the
Aureobasidium pullulans (mildew organism) is applied by itself while the
other
Aspergillus and Penicillium (mold organisms) are pooled and
inoculated onto different test pieces. The test allows for a more
severe challenge by use of a nutritive agar medium or a less severe
challenge by use of a mineral salts agar that contains no carbon source. If
both nutritive agar plates and mineral salts agar plates are requested,
twelve test pieces for each sample are required and will be billed as 2
tests instead of one. Representative pictures will be included in the
report.
- Customer must determine the medium to be used: Nutritive agar for a more
severe challenge, Mineral Salts for a lesser challenge, or both.h.
MicroStar for an
additional charge.
- This test has a 4-week incubation.
- Temperature and humidity are monitored with instrumentation that has
been calibrated with NIST-traceable standards.
