About MicroStar Lab - Industrial Microbiology Laboratory

The MicroStar Lab is an industrial microbiology lab dedicated to providing quality materials testing for a range of products and industries. Originally specializing in microbiological tests for paint, paper and building materials, we have evolved into the one of the world’s premier mold-resistance testing facilities.

ASTM mold-resistance testing methods, such as the D3273 and G-21, require a high level of expertise to achieve reliable, consistent and reproducible results. This level of expertise can only be attained through proper training, internal audits, world-class facilities, a dedicated management team and years of experience — and that’s exactly what you’ll find at The MicroStar Lab.

Our Facility - Antimicrobial and Materials Testing Laboratory

Our testing facility is equipped with HEPA-filtered laminar flow hoods to contain any spread of fungal spores along with air-flow snorkel units that gentle draw potentially contaminated air into individual HEPA filters that protect both our scientists and the laboratory environment. Cross-contamination between different customers’ samples has been eliminated by our insistence upon separate test chambers for each test. UV sterilization of the circulating air also reduces cross-contamination, while our specially designed warm room efficiently handles high volumes of mold testing. Strict attention is paid to the temperature and humidity specifications of all test protocols with NIST-traceable standards used to monitor all test equipment.

Our ISO 17025 accreditation through American Association of Laboratory Accreditation was granted in July of 2009 and our scope of accredited tests continues to expand with each new audit.

Quality Testing Services - Mold and Antimicrobial Testing Services

In addition to mold-resistance testing, The MicroStar Lab’s other areas of expertise include various tests for microbiological control in building materials, paint, paper and textiles. Technical consulting in regard to biocide applications is available for paint preservation and paper machine slime control. Our textile applications are also growing since the addition of the ASTM E1428 Pink Stain test and the MIL STD 810 Fungus method to our testing scope.

Versions C-G of MilStd 810 are also available so if you need to run an older version of this test, ws can do that too. An example of a MilStd 810 Fungis report can be found here.
